Waterloo
Waterloo is where the steam bug addiction first took hold. Having joined BR there as a telephone enquiry clerk in the June of 1962 "as just a job" some of the many people I was to work with were hard core steam enthusiasts. Intrigued as to the attraction I began to realise that the steam locomotive, often viewed at the end of platform 11 during my lunch break, was a magnificent living machine and, with an office colleague insisting I "get out there - use your travel perks - its all disappearing!" prompted me to begin what became a 5 year addiction to chasing the "Iron Hose".
